None of the is worn crt ans is 14

Question:

Three pipes A, B and C can fill a cistern in 6 hours. After working at it together for 2 hours, C is closed and A and B can fill the remaining part in 7 hours. The time taken by C alone to fill the cistern is

Options:
A)

10 hrs

B)

12 hrs

C)

14 hrs

D)

16 hrs

E)

None of these

Solution:

A + B + C can fill a cistern in 6 hrs

A+B+C can fill a cistern in 1 hrs= 1/6 part ....(i)

∴ A + B + C can fill 1/3 part of cistern in 2 hrs.

Now, 1 – 1/3    =  2/3  of cistern in filled up by A + B in 7 hrs.

∴ A + B can fill up the whole cistern in     = 21/2 hrs thus,

A+B can fill the cistern in one hrs= 2/21 part ......(ii)

Therefore C can fill a cistern in  1 hour =

Subtract eq (i) and (ii)
= [(A+B+C) 's 1 hour work]-[(A+B)'s 1 hr work]
=(1/6 - 2/21) = 1/14
C alone can fill the tank in 14 hours
