sir uska jiven kl apn ko ni pata k vh kb tak jiye ga so uska ans data inadequate aye ga so plz expln

Question:
A man starts going for morning walk every day. The distance walked by him on the first day was 2 km. Everyday he walks half of the distance walked on the previous day. What can be the maximum total distance walked by him in his life - time ?
Options:
A) 4 km.
B) 40 km.
C) 20 km.
D) Data inadequate .
E) None of these.
Solution:
Given that the distance covered by a man on the first day was 2 km. and Everyday he walks half of the distance walked on the previous day.

Therefore,

Total distance covered by him = \(2+1+ {1 \over 2}+{1 \over 4}+{1 \over 8}+...................+\infty\)

Here,  The ser's is in G.P whose first term, a = 2 and common ratio, r = 1/2

Hence,

Total distance, S\(\infty\) = \({a\over 1-r}=\)\({2 \over 1-1/2}\)

                             = 4 km.

Don't think like Historian, just think like mathematician..........:)

Check out the solution, it makes Geometric series, so we can find its sum by applying GP formula.

Maximum distance has been asked in the question....not exact distance...

Hence, we can calculate it.
