simultaneously means at the same time.. both the pipes were opened together first than B was closed

Two pipes A and B can fill a cistern in 30 minutes and 40 minutes respectively. Both the pipes are turned on simultaneously. When should the second pipe be closed, if the cistern is to be filled in 24 minutes?
Options:
A) 6 min
B) 8 min
C) 10 min
D) 12 min
E) 13 min
Solution:
Ans: (b)

Let after x minutes Pipe B will be closed.


24(1/30) + x(1/40) = 1

x=8 minutes
