It is not given that people are facing north, they could be facing south which will again result in two possibilities.

Question:

DIRECTIONS: Each of the questions below consists of a question and two statements numbered I and II given below it. You have to decide whether the data give in statements are sufficient to answer the question. Read both statements and choose the most appropriate option.

P, Q, R, S and T are standing in a row. Who is standing at the left end of the row?

I. There are three persons between P and T.

II. R is to the immediate left of T, S is to the immediate right of P. R and S are not adjacent to each other.

Options:
A)

If the data in statement I alone is sufficient to answer the question while the data in statement II alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

B)

If the data in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question, while the data in statement I alone is not sufficient to answer the question.

C)

If the data either in statement I alone or in statement II alone is sufficient to answer the question.

D)

If the data even in both the statements I and II together are not sufficient to answer the question.

E)

If the data in both the statements I and II together are necessary to answer the question.

Solution:

Ans: (e) From statement I, we can find out that it can be either P or T who is at the left in the row. From statement II, we can know that there are different ways in which P, Q, R, S and T can be standing. Combining I and II, we get only one combination i.e. P, S, Q, R, T in which they can stand.

∴ Statements I and II are required to answer the question.

Consider the direction to be north unless any other direction is specified.
