Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the following question, two statements numbered I and II are given, on solving them, we get quantities I and II respectively. Compare both the quantities and choose the correct option.

Quantity I- If A : B = 3 : 4, B : C = 5 : 7 and C : D = 8 : 9, then A : D is equal to:

Quantity II-  A : D = 9/ 21

Options:
A)

Quantity I > Quantity II

B)

Quantity I < Quantity II

C)

Quantity I ≥ Quantity II

D)

Quantity I ≤ Quantity II

E)

Quantity I = Quantity II or the relation can’t be determined

Solution:

From Quantity I-

A:D= \(\cfrac{A}{D}=\cfrac{A}{B}\times\cfrac{B}{C}\times\cfrac{C}{D}\)

=\(\cfrac{3}{4}\times\cfrac{5}{7}\times\cfrac{8}{9}=\cfrac{10}{21}\)

Quantity II- 9/21
