In the description it is evident that x= -2, -3 and y= -3.2, -2.5. But the answer says x=y. Please clarify.

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In each question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and Give Answer If

I. x2 + 5x + 6 = 0

II. 4y2 + 24y + 35 = 0

Options:
A) x < y
B) x > y
C) x ≥ y
D) x ≤ y
E) x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established.
Solution:

I. x2 + 5x + 6 = 0

⇒ x2 + 3x + 2x + 6 = 0

⇒ x(x + 3) +2 (x + 3) = 0

⇒ (x + 2) (x + 3) = 0

⇒ x = - 2 or – 3

II. 4y2 + 24y + 35 = 0

⇒ 4y2 + 14y + 10y + 35 = 0

⇒ 2y(2y+ 7) +5(2y + 7) = 0

⇒ (2y+ 7) (2y + 5) = 0

⇒ y = - \(\frac{7}{2}\)  or - \(\frac{5}{2}\)  = -3.5 or  - 2.5

when u put it n no.line we get -3.5(y) -3(x) -2.5(y) -2(x) as u can see there cannot be clear relation hence it is right x=y or no relation holds true

x<y and x>y so relation cant be established.

option e is for both cases. x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established. Here the relationship between x and y cannot be established. That is why the answer is e.
