Question:
In the following questions two equations I and II are given. Solve both the equations and give answer


I. x2 + 5x + 6 = 0

II. y2 + 7y + 12 = 0

Options:
A) x > y
B) x ≥ y
C) x < y
D) x ≤ y
E) x = y or relation cannot be established
Solution:
Ans: (b) 

I.

x2 + 5x + 6 = 0 

x2 + 2x + 3x + 6

x(x+2)+3(x+2)= 0

(x+2)(x+3)=0

x= -2

x= -3

II.

y2 + 7y +12=0

y2 + 4y +3y +12 = 0

y(y+4)+3(y+4)=0

(y+3)(y+4)=0

y = -3, -4

\(\therefore\) x \(\geq\ y\)
