y will be positive, so, x

Question:

DIRECTION: In the given question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and Give answer if

I. 3x - 4y = 8

II. 7x - 16y = 62

Options:
A)

If x < y

B)

If x > y

C)

If x ≥ y

D)

If x ≤ y

E)

If x = y or relationship between x and y cannot be established.

Solution:

Ans: (b)

I. 3x - 4y = 8 (1)

II. 7x - 16y = 62 (2)

(2) - 4 x (1) we get

x =  - 6

Putting the value of x in equation

(1) we get

3 x (- 6) - 4y = 8

⇒ 4y = 8 + 18 = 26

⇒ y =  - 6.5

Clearly, x > y
