Neither I nor II comes

Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the following questions, the symbols +, -, x, ÷ and = are used with the following meaning as illustrated below:

• ‘P + Q’ means ‘P is greater than Q’.

• ‘P - Q’ means ‘P is greater than or equal to Q’.

• ‘P × Q’ means ‘P is equal to Q’.

• ‘P ÷ Q means ‘P is smaller than Q’.

• ‘P = Q means ‘P is either smaller than or equal to Q’.

Now in each of the following questions assuming the given statements to be true, find which of the conclusions I and II given below then is/are definitely true.

Statements:

H = V, A × Z, H - Z, F + V

Conclusions:

I.  A × H

II. H + A

Options:
A) if only Conclusion I is true
B) if only Conclusion II is true
C) if either Conclusion I or II is true
D) if neither Conclusion I nor II is true
E) if both Conclusion I and II are true
Solution:

Ans: (c) According to question:

H = V ⇒ H ≤ V ------(1)

A × Z ⇒ A = Z------(2)

H - Z ⇒ H ≥ Z-----(3)

F + V ⇒ F > V ------(4)

On combining the statements:

A = Z ≤ H ≤ V < F

Conclusions:

I.  A × H ⇒ A = H

II. H + A ⇒ H > A

So, either conclusion I or II is true.

Hello Kittu, Given answer is correct..please solve it properly and you must know the rules of inequalities to determine exact answer..

see sol:

According to question:
H = V ⇒ H ≤ V ------(1)
A × Z ⇒ A = Z------(2)
H - Z ⇒ H ≥ Z-----(3)
F + V ⇒ F > V ------(4)
On combining the statements:
A = Z ≤ H ≤ V < F ____(5)
From(5),
A = Z ≤ H

means A ≤ H

means, H ≥ Z which indicates that H is either > or = z.
Conclusions:
I. A × H ⇒ A = H
II. H + A ⇒ H > A
So, either conclusion I or II is true.
