correct answer is option 2.. even the explanation given agrees with the same

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In each of the following questions, a question is followed by information given in two statements. You have to study the question along with the statements and decide, the information given in which of the statements (s) is necessary to answer the question?

In a group of six numbers, five are 35, 41, 31, 61 and 74. Find the sixth number.

I. More than 50% of the values lie above the missing number.

II. The mean of the six number is 51.

Options:
A) If the question can be answered by using statement I alone but not by using statement II alone
B) If the question can be answered by using statement II alone but not by using statement I alone
C) If the question can be answered by using either of the statements alone
D) If the question can be answered by using both the statements together but not by either of the statements alone
E) If the question cannot be answered even by using both the statements together
Solution:
Ans: (b) From statement I the value of the missing number is less than 41. So, unique value is not possible. So, statement I alone not sufficient. From statement lithe missing numbers can be found as 6 × 51 — (35 + 41 + 31 + 61 + 74) = 64. So, statement II alone is sufficient.

Hence, option (b) is the answer.
