why we chose only positive values?

Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the given question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations.

I. \(x=\sqrt{625}\)

II. \(y=\sqrt{676}\)

Options:
A) x>y
B) x≥y
C) x<y
D) x≤y
E) x = y or the relationship cannot be established
Solution:
\(x=\sqrt{625}=25\)

\(y=\sqrt{676}= 26\)

ok if u r taking only positive value then check question num 13 , y u taking square root of 169 as +13 nd -13

@MIHIR KELKAR

Because In real number under square root we do not take negative sign otherwise it will make complex number............

@Knowledge Expert may be you are right.. but my doubt is that
square of 25 and -25 is 625.. vice versa square root of 625 will be 25 and -25. so why have we not taken he negative values in the solution?

@MIHIR KELKAR

So, only 25 and 26 will be taken.

@MIHIR KELKAR

You must know Squares and Square root case:

X^2=1600 and Y = √3600

We know that square root always gives positive value. So, Y will have ONLY +60 NOT -60.

X = ±40 and Y = +60

+60 is greater than both +40 and -40. Hence Y > X.

this one is wrong... the square root of a number is always positive and negative... thus it should be +/- 25 and +/-26

Because here we did not make square root....square root is already given with positive sign....Thats why we took only positive sign.....

Note: Always remember if you are not making root then take only the sign in which root is expressed....Take both sign viz. + and - when you make square root.....

Thats it
