why not (Question: 146156.1 )

why the 3.5 is not taken as 4

Question:
DIRECTIONS : What approximate value will come in place of the question mark?

(3.5)2 × 19.95 + ? = 275

Options:
A) 15
B) 20
C) 30
D) 28
E) 40
Solution:

Ans: (c)

(3.5)2 × 19.95 + ? = 275

⇒ 12.25 × 20 + ? = 275 

⇒ ? ≈ 275 – 245 = 30.

Dear Student, In this question (3.5)^2, 3.5 vary between 3 and 4. square of 3=9 and square of 4= 16 thus approximate value lie between 12 and 13. here we can't take 3.5 as 4 because 3.5 in square form. Keep learning with us! Best wishes Team Toprankers
