Question:

DIRECTIONS: Study the information carefully and answer the questions that follow.

Seven Students – Golu, Sonu, Monu, Timmy, Nanu, Honey, and Lichi live in different floors of a seven storeyed building, not necessarily in the same order (Ground floor is considered the first floor and the floor just above the first floor is considered the second floor and so on) and are comparing their ranks after completion of their IX class. The following information is known about them:

There are two ranks between Monu’s rank and Nanu’s rank but one of them got the first rank. Nanu lives just above Monu, who lives on an odd numbered floor. Only two Students got lower rank than Lichi, who got higher rank than Timmy. ‘Lichi’ lives just below Timmy. Sonu lives above Lichi. Timmy got higher rank than Sonu. There are as many floors above Golu as below Timmy. Honey lives neither on the first floor nor on the top floor. Honey got higher rank than Nanu but lower rank than Golu. Golu lives below Honey.

Who got the least rank?

Options:
A) Honey
B) Nanu
C) Monu
D) Timmy
E) Sonu
Solution:
Ans: (e) It is given that there are two ranks between Monu’s rank and Nanus’s rank but one of them got the first rank. Nanu lives just above Monu, who lives on an odd numbered floor then we get three possible cases. Also given that only two Students got less rank than Lichi, who got higher rank than Timmy. Timmy got higher rank than Sonu. Hone got higher rank than Nanu but lower rank than Golu that means Nanu cannot get the first rank. Therefore, Monu got the first rank and both the arrangements are as follows.

Monu > Golu > Honey > Nanu > Lichi > Timmy > Sonu

Also given that ___ lives just below ___. ___ lives above ___. Since ___ cannot live on the fourth floor, may live on the fifth floor, in case ii, ___ lives on the fourth floor in case, ___ since ___ cannot live on the sixth floor in case iii, it is eliminated. Since ___ lives neither on the first floor nor on the top floor, ___ lives on the sixth floor in case ___ and ___ live on the second floor in case ii. Since F lives above ___, case ii is eliminated and the final floor arrangement is as follows.
