Question:
A person bought an item and sold it at a loss of 5%. If he had bought it for 10% less and sold it for \(\unicode{x20B9} \)170 more, he would have had a profit of 20%, Find the cost price of this item.
Options:
A) 1305.69
B) 1306.69
C) 1307.69
D) 1308.69
E) None of these.
Solution:
Actual C.P. = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)100
Loss = 5% Actual S.P. = 95
Supposed C.P. at loss of 10% = 90
Supposed SP at 20% gain=\(\cfrac{90\times120}{100}=\unicode{x20B9} 108\)
Difference in selling price= 108 – 95 = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)13
C.P. = \(\left ( \cfrac {100}{13} \right )\times170\)
      = 1307.69.
