HOW CAN DISTANCE BE 2.4X. IT SHOULD BE 3.4X. "(IE LENGHT OF TRAIN A+TRAIN B)

Question:
Train A crosses a stationary train B in 30 seconds. The length of train B is 140% of the length of train A. The speed of train A is 72 kmph. What is the difference between the lengths of the two trains?
Options:
A) 140 meters
B) 80 meters
C) 70 meters
D) 115 meters
E) None of these
Solution:

Suppose the length of train A  = x meters

Therefore, the length of train

B = \(\cfrac{140}{100}\) × x = 1.4 x meters

Total length of the two trains

= x + 1.4x = 2.4x meters

Speed of train A in meters per second

= 72km/hr.

= 72 × \(\cfrac{5}{18}\)= 20 meters per second

According to question

D = S × T

∴ 2.4x = 20 × 30

∴ x = \(\cfrac{30 × 20 }{2.4 }\) = 250 meters

∴ Length of train B = 250 × 1.4

= 350 meters

Difference between the lengths of two trains = (350 - 250) meters

= 100 meters
