Question:
A finishes \(\cfrac{6}{7}\)th of the work in 2z hours, B works twice as fast and finishes the remaining work. For how long did B work?
Options:
A) \(\left ( \cfrac {2}{3} \right ) z\)
B) \(\left ( \cfrac {6}{7} \right ) z\)
C) \(\left ( \cfrac {6}{49} \right ) z\)
D) \(\left ( \cfrac {1}{6} \right ) z\)
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (d) Since A finishes \(\cfrac{6}{7}\)th of the work in 2z hours.

B would finish \(\cfrac{12}{7}\)th of the work in 2z hours.

Thus, to do \(\cfrac{1}{7}\)th of the work (which represents the remaining work), B would require \(\cfrac{2z}{1z}\) = \(\cfrac{z}{6}\) hours. Option (d) is correct.

Dear Student, Detailed Explanation- As A finishes 6/7th of the work in 2z hours, so he can complete the work in : 2z x 7/6 = 14z/6 hours As B works twice as fast as A , so he can complete the same work in : (14z/6) / 2 hrs = 7z/6 hours 6/7th of the work is already finished ,so the remaining 1/7th of the work will be finished by B in : 1/7 x 7z/6 = z/6 hrs. So the answer is (1/6)z hrs Keep learning with us! Best wishes Team Toprankers
