Question:

DIRECTIONS: Read the following information carefully to answer the questions.

Each of the eight persons – W, V, U, T, S, R, Q and P – lives on different floors in the same apartment which has eight floors numbered from one to eight.The ground floor is named 1^st floor, the floor which is immediately above the ground floor is named 2^nd floor and so on, not necessarily in the same order.One among them knows English. The person who lives on an odd numbered floor knows Telugu. The person who knows Konkani lives on the floor which is immediately below the floor on which V who knows Kannada lives. P lives on the fourth floor. The person who knows Urdu lives on an even numbered floor. There are two floors between the person who knows Konkani and T, who knows Tamil. U lives on the topmost floor. W knows Telugu and lives on the floor which is immediately above the floor on which R lives. Neither the person who knows Urdu nor the person who knows Malayalam lives on the top floor. There is only one floor between the floors on which R and the person who knows Malayalam live. S knows Hindi and lives below the floor on which the person who knows Konkani lives. The person who lives on the second floor knows Konkani.

Which is true according to the given information?

Given that the person who lives on an odd numbered floor knows Telugu, and from the above table, there is only one odd numbered floor, Hence we can say that the person who knows Telugu lives on the seventh floor. Given that the person who knows Urdu lives on an even numbered floor, so, we can say that the person who knows Urdu lives on either the fourth or the sixth floor only, Since, on the second floor there is a person who knows Konkani and the person who knows Urdu does not live on the top floor i.e., the eighth floor. Given that W knows Telugu and lives on the floor which is immediately above the floor on which R lives. Hence, we can say that R lives on the sixth floor and W lives on the seventh floor. Hence, Q lives on the remaining second floor and knows Konkani. Given that there is only one floor between the floors on with R and the person who knows Malayalam live. Hence, we can say that either P or U knows Malayalam. But the person who knows Malayalam does not live on the top floor i.e., the eighth floor. Hence we can say that P knows Malayalam and R knows Urdu, and hence U knows English.
