A 1 day -> 1/20 work
B 1 day -> 1/30 work

Therefore, (A+B) 1 day -> 5/60 work and hence in x days -> 5x/60 work.

Now, A 10 days -> 1/2 work and hence remaining work is 1/2.

Therefore (A+B) in 6 days can complete 1/2 work and not just B

Question:
A and B can separately complete a piece of work in 20 days and 30 days respectively. They worked together for some time then B left the work. If A completed the rest of the work in 10 days, then B worked for how many days?
Options:
A) 6 days
B) 8 days
C) 12 days
D) 16 days
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (a) (A + B)’s 1 day work

\(\cfrac{1}{20} + \cfrac{1}{30} = \cfrac{5}{60}\) part

Hence work done in x day = \(\cfrac{5x}{60}\) part

A’s 10 day work = \(\cfrac{10}{20}=\cfrac{1}{2}\)

∴ Remaining part = \(\cfrac{1}{2}\)

∴ Done part = \(\cfrac{1}{2}\)

This means ⇒ \(\cfrac{5x}{60} = \cfrac{1}{2} ⇒ x =\) 6 days
