any other method for this

Question:
A train, 150 m long, takes 30 seconds to cross a bridge 500 m long. How much time will the train take to cross a platform 370 m long?
Options:
A) 36 secs
B) 30 secs
C) 24 secs
D) 18 secs
E) None of these
Solution:

Speed of train = \(\cfrac{150+500}{30}\)  = \(\cfrac{650}{30}\) m./s

When it crosses 370 m. long bridge

Then

D = 370 + 150 = 520 m

Time = \(\cfrac{520}{650}\) × 30 = 24 second

Dear Student,

Concept behind this type of problem is Time taken by a train of length l metres to pass a stationary object (here platform) of length b metres is the time taken by the train to cover (l + b) metres.

In first case length of train, length of bridge and time given with the help of given data we calculate speed of train = (length of train+length of bridge)/time in terms of m/s

For second case- length of train we already known and length of platform given we calculate time in terms of second.
Time= (length of train+length of platform)/ speed of train

There are only method to solve this type of problem.
