Question:
The income and expenditure of Anil, Bhavan and Charan are in the ratio of 3: 5: 7 and 4: 7: 8 respectively. If Anil saves 20% of his income, find the ratio of their savings.
Options:
A)

2 : 5 : 7

B) 3 : 4 : 11
C) 4 : 6 : 9
D) 5 : 6 : 7
E) Cannot be determined
Solution:
Ans: (b) Let the income of Anil, Bhavan and Charan are 3x, 5x and 7x and their expenditure are 4y, 7y and 8y respectively.

Saving of Anil = 3x – 4y = 20% of 3x

y = \(\cfrac{3x}{5}\)

Ratio of savings = (3x – 4y) : (5x – 7y) : (7x – 8y)

(3x – 12x/5) : (5x – 21x/5) : (7x – 24x/5)

\(\cfrac{3x}{5}\) : \(\cfrac{4x}{5}\) : \(\cfrac{11x}{5}\)

3 : 4 : 11
