Question:
DIRECTIONS: Study the following graph carefully and answer the questions that follow:

If the total production of cars by Maruti Auto Ltd in the year 2003 was twice that in the year 1999, then how did the production of M-800 change from 1999 to 2003?
Options:
A) It decreased by approximately 15%
B) It increased by approximately 15%
C) It increased by approximately 45%
D) It increased by approximately 60%
E) Cannot be determined
Solution:
Ans: (c) Let the total production of cars in 1999 = 100

Total production: \(\cfrac{1999}{100}\) \(\cfrac{2003}{100×2=200}\)

M-800:                55   40 × 2 = 80

Percentage increase in production of M-800 = \(\cfrac{80-55}{55}\) × 100 =\(\cfrac{5}{11}\)×100 = 45.45%

Let the total production of cars in 1999 = 100
Total production of Maruti Auto Ltd in 1999 = 100 2003100×2=200
Total production of Maruti Auto Ltd in 2003 = 100×2=200
[Since, total production of cars by Maruti Auto Ltd in the year 2003 was twice that in the year 1999,
Total production of M800 in 1999 = 55
Total production of M800 in 2003 = 40*2 =80

Percentage increase in production of M-800 = {(80−55)/55} × 100 =(5/11)×100 = 45.45%
