DIRECTIONS: Study the table given below and answer the questions that follow.

Skin cream market in 2002 and 2003

Data given in a particular question can be used in subsequent questions. All the questions pertain to Skin cream market only.

What is the average price per tonne of Indelor in 2002?
Options:
A) Rs. 33.33
B) Rs. 27.27
C) Rs. 28.45
D) Rs. 3.33
E) Cannot be determined
Solution:
Ans:(b)  Percentage of market share = Sales of company × 100/ Total sales

Growth rate=  (Current year’s sales — Last year’s sales) × 100/ Last year’s sales

Value sales

In 2002, 25% market share equals to a sales of Rs. 60,000. Hence, the total sales for the year (100% market share) has to be Rs. 2,40,000) =B

Sales of Ponds (A) has to be 37.5% of B =Rs.90000

For 2003. sales growth rate of Indelor = 66.65%

Thus. lndelor’s sales in 2003 must be greater than the 2002

sales by 66.65% of 60,000 = 40,000.

Hence, E = 60,000 + 40,000 = Rs. 1,00,000.

The total sales in 2003 have grown by 25%.

Hence, total sales in 2003 (D) = 240000 + 25% of 24000 = Rs. 3,00,000

Market share of Ponds and Indelor in 2003 (H and F) will be:

H = 60% F = 33.33%

Since Ponds has doubled its sales from 2002 to 2003 its

growth rate (G) =100%

Sales growth rate of Indelor and total for 2002 (I and C) cannot be calculated without the sales figures of 2001.

Volume sales

Total sales have grown from 10,000 T in 2002 to 15,000 T in 2003.

Hence, growth rate in 2003 for total sales (M) = 50%.

Sales of Indelor (L) in 2002 = 22% of 10000 = 2,200 T. Growth rate of Indelor in 2003 is 50%. Hence, its sales has gone up by 50% of 2,200T = 1,100 T.

Sales of Indelor (Q) in 2003 = 2200 + 1100 = 3,300T.

Thus, market share of Indelor in 2003 (R) = 22%,

Similarly, market share of Ponds in 2003 (N) = 40%.

Sales growth rates of Ponds and lndelor for 2002 (T and S)

cannot be calculated without the sales figure of 2001.

For calculation of P, sales of Ponds in 2002(K) is required.

Similarly, with the given data T and S cannot be calculated.

Alternately, in this case, we should not start finding missing value for alphabet.

Instead, we should go question by question.

Average price per tonne of lndelor in 2007 = 60000/2200 = Rs 27.27
