short trick for this qn

Question:

Kunal bought an article for Rs.16000 and marked the price of the article 20% above the cost price and allowed a discount of 5% while selling. Had he marked the price of the article 30% above the cost price and allowed a discount of 10% while selling, what would have percent increase/decrease in profit percent?

Options:
A)

23.11%

B)

19.34%

C)

21.42%

D)

17.22%

E)

None of these

Solution:

Ans: (c)

MP = 16000 x 120/100 = Rs.19200

SP = 19200 x 95/100 = Rs.18240

% profit = (18240 – 16000)/16000 x 100

= 2240/16000 x 100

= 14%

Had he marked the price of the article 30% above the cost price

MP = 16000 x 130/100 = Rs.20800

SP = 20800 x 90/100 = Rs.18720

% profit = (18720 – 16000)/16000 x 100

= 2720/16000 x 100

= 17%

Percent increase = (17 – 14)/14 x 100

= 3/14 x 100

= 21.42%
