If we have to calculate the total Volume of motorcycles then why are we using the sales of hero only?
Is there any formula to calculate The Total volume of motorcycles?

Question:
DIRECTIONS: Answer the questions based on the following information. The histograms below show the number of units sold by the three motorcycle manufacturers, i.e. Bajaj, Hero, and TVS and the other graph show the market share (in units) of Hero ,in five consecutive years.

If volume of total motorcycle market expected to grow by 6% in 2005 and Hero  shares the 49.8% of the total market, then how many extra units does it require to sell (in thousands) in 2005 with respect to 2004 ?
Options:
A) 128
B) 130
C) 137
D) 150
E) None of these
Solution:
Hero’s sales in 2004 = 14.1 x 105  i.e 48.1% market share.

Total volume of motorcycles in 2004 = \(\cfrac{14.1×10^5}{0.481}\)   = 29,31, 393 units=29.3 x 105

Then total volume of motorcycle in 2005

= 29,31,393 x 1.06 = 31,07,276 units.

Out of it 49.8% sold by Hero

= 31, 07,276×0.498 = 15,47,423 unit

So extra units to be sold in 2005 by Hero

= 15,47,423-14.1 x 105 = 1,37,423 unit

= 137.4 x 103 units.

Market share(%) = (Unit sales / Total market unit sale)*100
