how to give starting number..

Question:
DIRECTIONS: Read the following information and answer the questions that follow.

The barbaric king of Rome had made a circular arena encircled with 9 cages in which 8 deadly animals were kept (one of the cages was empty), i.e. Anaconda, Lion, Leopard, Black Mamba, Black Adder, Panther, Tiger and  Cobra. Certain information about the cages is known -

1. Anaconda and panther were adjacent to each other.

2. No two snakes were in adjacent cages.

3. There were two cages between Black Adder and Black Mamba.

4. On both sides of the leopard, there were two snakes.

5. Panther was in the cage Left to that of Black Adder.

6. There were exactly two cages between the leopard and the Black Adder cages, in which two deadly  animals were kept.

7. Black Mamba is in cage number 5.

None of the cages numbered as 6 and 7 are empty. [Cages are numbered in clockwise direction]

Given that Mamba and Adder are snakes.

Which is the empty cage?
Options:
A) 4
B) 5
C) 6
D) 7
E) 8
Solution:

Ans:(a) Let Anaconda — A, Black Mamba — BM, Black Adder — BA, Panther — P, Lion — Ln, Leopard — L, Cobra — C, Tiger — T.

From 1st condition

From 3rd condition

this figure also satisfies the 5th condition.

From 4th condition, there were snakes on both side of Leopard, so Leopard could be between Anaconda and Cobra or Cobra and Black Adder, but as there were two cages between Leopard and Black Adder, it must have been between Anaconda and Cobra

As there are two deadly animals on cage number 6 and 7, they must be Lion and Tiger. Cage number 4 will be empty cage.
