why we cannot find the relation between x or y , can you please elaborate.

Question:
Directions : In the question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and Give Answer If

I. 2x2 + 11x + 14=0

II. 2y2 + 17y + 33 = 0

Options:
A) x > y
B) x ≥ y
C) x < y
D) x ≤ y
E) x = y or the relationship cannot be established.
Solution:

From equation I, x = -2 and -3.5

And from equation II, y = -3 or -5.5

Therefore, we cannot find the relation between x and y

Apply formula, x= [-b±square root of(b^2-4ac) ]/ 2a for a quadratic equation ax^2+bx+c=0

From equation I, x = -2 and -3.5
And from equation II, y = -3 or -5.5
Now, compare:
-2>-3 means x>y
-2>-5.5 means x>y
-3.5<-3 means x<y
-3.5=-.35 means x=y

All the three signs of inequalities do not occur together. Therefore, we cannot find the relation between x and y
