Question:

DIRECTIONS:Study the following graph carefully and answer the questions that follow:

The line graph gives the percentage increase in the number of students and the fee per student at a coaching institute, across five years. The increase in values for each year is with respect to that of the previous year.

If the total fees collected by the institute in 2011 was Rs.29.375 cr and the fee per student that year was Rs.12,500, then what was the total fee collected in 2013?
Options:
A) Rs.38.8cr
B) Rs.36.2cr
C) Rs.34.1cr
D) Rs.32.2cr
E) None of these
Solution:

The number of students in 2011 = \(\cfrac{29.375×10}{12,500}\)  = 23,500

Number of students in 2013 = 23,500 × 1.06 ×  1.02 = 25408

Fee collected per student in 2013 = 12,500 ×  1.12×  1.09 =15260

Total fee collected = 38.77 cr

The number of students in 2011 =(3+7=10)% of 29.375/12500 = 23,500

Number of students in 2013 = 23,500 × 1.06 × 1.02 = 25408

(since, 6% increase in 2012 and 2% increase in 2013, so 23500 is multiplied by 1.06 and 1.02)

Fee collected per student in 2013 = 12,500 × 1.12× 1.09 =15260

Total fee collected = 38.77 cr
