HOW 13/10 CAME

Question:
A is 30% more efficient than B. How much time will they working together, take to complete a job if A alone could have done in 23 days?
Options:
A) 11 days
B) 13 days
C) \(20\cfrac{3}{7}\) days
D) 18 days
E) None of these
Solution:
A's 1 day work =\(\cfrac{1}{23}\)

According to question,

let \(\cfrac{1}{x}\) be the one day work of B

therefore, \(\cfrac{1}{23}=\cfrac{13}{10}\times\cfrac{1}{x}\Rightarrow x=\cfrac{299}{10}\)

Now,  (A+B)'s one day work =\(\cfrac{1}{23}+\cfrac{10}{299}=\cfrac{13+10}{299}=\cfrac{23}{299}=\cfrac{1}{13}\)

therefore,  13 days will be required time.

short trick for this is LCM method

find efficiency which is 13:10

so A alone can do in 23 days so total work is 13*23....because no of days into efficiency gives us total work.

now simply add efficiency of both and divide whole work

13*23/(10+13)=13 days

that is from efficiency.

(A+B)'s one day work = 1/13 = 1/23 + 10/299
