answer given is 80 l however if 16 l is takeen out 3 times that means 48 l has already being taken howcome proportion of milk still greater than water

Question:

A jar has k litres of milk. From the jar 16 litres of milk taken out and replaced by an equal amount of water. This process is repeated 2 more times. Now mixture has milk and water in the ratio of 64 : 61. Find the initially quantity of milk in the jar.

Options:
A) 90 litres
B) 80 litres
C) 64 litres
D) 96 litres
E) None of these
Solution:

Ratio of milk to water in the mixture = 64 : 61

Proportion of milk =  \(\cfrac{64}{64+61}\) =  64/125 =(4/5)3 = (1 - 1/5)3

∴ 1/5 of the initial quantity is taken out in one time

Initial quantity of milk = 5 x 16 = 80 litres
