what is the meaning of the word 'series' ?

DIRECTIONS: The given questions contains a number series in which one of the number is a wrong number. Find out the wrong number and form a new series starting with the wrong number and by using the pattern in the given series. Answer the questions based on the new series:

5, 7, 12, 15, 60, 65

What is the fourth term in the new series?

Options:
A) 19 
B) 125 
C) 20
D) 382 
E) None of these
Solution:

Ans: (a) The series can be represented as follows.

5+1, 6×2, 12+3, 15×4, 60+5, 65

∴ The wrong term is 7.

New series will be 7+1, 8×2, 16+3, 19

∴ 19 is the fourth term in the new series.

In Quant section the word series is referred to the numerical sequences that follow a logical rule/ pattern based on elementary arithmetic concepts.
In Banking or Insurance exams, generally two types of number series are asked.
1. First one is Missing Number Series.
2. Second one is Wrong Number Series.
