quadratic equaations (Question: 100166.2 )

x=+12 or -12
y=+13 or -13
then no relation b/w x&y . is it corrct???

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In the given question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer if:

I. x2 – 32 = 112

            

II. y – \(\sqrt{169}\)  = 0 

Options:
A) x > y
B) x ≥ y
C) x < y
D) x ≤ y
E) x = y or the relationship cannot be established
Solution:

I. x2 = 32 + 112 = 144

∴ x = \(±\sqrt{144}\) = ± 12

II. y = \(\sqrt{169}\) = 13

y=+13 only because we did not make square over there...we take both the signs only when we make the square root.....THats it...

Given answer is correct....
