Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the following question, two statements numbered I and II are given, on solving them, we get quantities I and II respectively. Compare both the quantities and choose the correct option.

Quantity I- A can do a certain job in 12 days. B is 60% more efficient than A. To do the same job, B alone would take:

Quantity II- A man digs a trench in 6 days, another man can dig it in 10 days and a third man can dig it in 12 days working alone. How much time will they take to dig it together?

Options:
A)

Quantity I > Quantity II

B)

Quantity I < Quantity II

C)

Quantity I ≥ Quantity II

D)

Quantity I ≤ Quantity II

E)

Quantity I = Quantity II or the relation can’t be determined

Solution:

From Quantity I-

So, the time taken by B alone to complete the work

\(=\cfrac{12}{1.6}=7.5\) days

From Quantity II-

one day work of all man together =

\(\cfrac{1}{6}+\cfrac{1}{10}+\cfrac{1}{12}\)
\(=\cfrac{10+6+5}{60}\)
 \(=\cfrac{21}{60}\)
\(\cfrac{60}{21}\ days\) will take in completing together.
