sir, why you have done 60*5/4

Question:

In a class among the passed students Ruhi is 22nd  from the top and Rashim, who is 5 ranks below Ruhi is 34th  from the bottom. All the students from the class appeared for an examination. If the ratio of the students who passed in the examination to those who failed is 4:1 for the class, how many students were there in the class?

Options:
A) 90
B) 60
C) 75
D) Data inadequate
Solution:

Ans (c) From among those who passed Ruhi is 22nd  from the top and Rashim is 22 + 5 = 27th  from the top and 34th  from the bottom. Therefore, total number of students who passed the examination  = 27+34-1 = 60.

If the ratio between passed and failed student = 4:1

Num. of passed student= 4/5*Total number of student

60= 4/5* total number of student

Therefore, total number of students in the class= (60/4)*5 =75

Because, we have given ratio passed to fail is 4:1.........it indicates that 4 students are failed and 1 student passed out of total 5 students...

From among those who passed Ruhi is 22nd from the top and Rashim is 22 + 5 = 27th from the top and 34th from the bottom. Therefore, total number of students who passed the examination = 27+34-1 = 60.

Since, total number of students who passed the examination = 27+34-1 = 60.

so total number of students who failed the examination will be 15 because we have given ratio passed to fail is 4:1.

total number of students in the class = (60)×(5/4)= 75
