Question:
A dishonest shopkeeper sells his goods at cost price. If he uses a faulty scale, he earns 25% profit. Find out what weight does he use in place of 1 kg weight.
Options:
A) 800 
B) 889
C) 881 
D) 772

Solution:

C.P. of 1000 gms = 1 

S.P. of x gms = 1

S.P. of 1000 gms

= \(\cfrac{1000 × 1}{x}\) = \(\cfrac{1000}{x}\)

P% = 25%

P% = \(\cfrac{P}{C.P.}\) × 100

P% = \(\cfrac{S.P. – C.P.}{C.P. }\) × 100

25 = \(\cfrac{\cfrac{1000}{x} - 1}{1}\) × 100

25 = \(\cfrac{1000 - x}{x}\) × 100

\(\cfrac{25x}{100}\) = 1000 – x

\(\cfrac{x}{4}\) = 1000 – x

x = 4(1000 - x)

x + 4x = 4000

5x = 4000

x = \(\cfrac{4000}{5}\) = 800
