In 1998, the ratio of men to women in the given state is 1:1 and in 1999, the same ratio is 2:3. What is the percentage increase in the women population from 1998 to 1999?
Options:
A) 30%
B) 60%
C) 20%
D) 40%
E) None of these
Solution:

Total population in 1998 = 150000

Women’s population in 1998 = 15000× \(\cfrac{1}{2}\) = 75000

Total population in 1999 = 150000

Women’s population in 1999 = 150000×\(\cfrac{3}{5}\)= 90000

% increase = \(\cfrac{90000-75000}{75000}\)    ×100

= 20%
