A certain family has 6 members. All of them watch television for exactly one hour starting from 6 PM till 12 AM. No two members watch together and all of them watch different programmes on different television channels. The names of the members of the family, programmes and channels are as follows:

Programmes: Shrubs, Celeb Vibes, Skyscrapers, Enemies, Stockholm Nights and Thompsons.

Channels: ZED TV, Doom, lox, Geography Channel, Sahayta and Galaxy TV

Names: Ankush, Kalpana, Shilpa, Nisha, Vicky and Vikas

The following information is known.

1. Ankush watches his favourite programme on Geography Channel starting at 9 PM.

2. Skyscrapers is not telecasted on either ZED TV or the Geography Channel. It follows the programme on Doom, which is preceded by the programme on ZED TV.

3. Kalpana watches Thompsons on Galaxy TV just before turning off the television for the night

4. Nisha watches Celeb Vibes on Doom.

S. Vicky follows Ankush and watches Sahayta.

6. Shilpa watches Shrubs.

Which programme is shown between 7 PM and 8 PM?

Analysis of the information — Preparation of a consolidated table

We first choose short forms as follows:

Shrubs, Celeb Vibes, Skyscrapers, Enemies, Stockholm Nights and Thompsons: SI-I, CV, SI( E, SN and T respectively.

ZED TV, Doom, lOx, Geography Channel, Sahayta and Galaxy TV: ZTV, 0, 10, GC, S and GTV respectively

Ankush, Kalpana, Shilpa, Nisha, Vicky and Vikas: A, K S, N, Vc and Vk

Table would initially look like this:

1. Ankush watches his favourite programme on the Geography Channel starting at 9 PM: We can therefore write Ankush’s name in the 9 — 10 PM slot and fill in the channel as well. Remember to eliminate these options for the other slots.

2. Skyscrapers is not telecasted on ZED TV or the Geography Channel. It follows the programme on Doom, which is preceded by the programme on ZED TV: Thus the order would be Zed TV, followed by Doom and then the channel on which Skyscrapers is telecasted. But as of now, we don’t know for which slots, this order will fit .

But we know that Geography channel is watched in the 9-10 slot So these three channels have to be the first three channels to be watched. It follows that Skyscrapers is the third programme watched.

We thus fill in ZED TV and Doom in the first two slots, and eliminate them for the others. We also eliminate Skyscrapers for all the slots except 8-9

3. Kalpana watches the Thompsons on Galaxy TV, just before turning off the television for the night: We know from this condition that Kalpana watches Thompsons; that Thompsons is shown on Galaxy TV, and that it is the last programme watched. We fill in all the boxes for the last slot, therefore, and eliminate the filled options for the other slots.

The table at this point looks like this:

4. Nisha watches Celeb Vibes on Doom: We already know that Doom occupies the second slot We thus write this information against Slot 2 and eliminate for the other slots.

5. Vicky follows Ankush and watches Sahayta: Since Ankush watches television in the fourth slot we know that Vicky must occupy the fifth slot We fill in Sahayta against his name.

At this point it can be observed that all the Channels except lox are eliminated for the third slot Thus, lOx is watched in the third slot

6. Shilpa watches the Shrubs: The only slots left without a name are the 1 and the 3”. Since Skyscrapers is watched in the third slot. Shrubs is watched in the first slot which means that Shilpa occupies the first slot

The only name left is that of Vikas, and we write it in Slot 3.

The final table that is obtained after analysing all the information is as below:
