Question:
DIRECTIONS: Study the following graph carefully to answer these questions. Percent Profit Earned by Two Companies Producing Electronic Goods over the Years
% Profit = \(\cfrac{Profit\ \ Earned}{Total\ \ Investment}\times 100\)

Profit Earned = Total Income — Total Investment in the Year

If the incomes of company A in 2007 and 2008 were equal and the amount invested in 2007 was \(\unicode{x20B9} \)12 lakhs, what was the amount invested in 2008?

Options:
A) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)10,87,500
B) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)10,85,700
C) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)12,45,000
D) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)12,85,000
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (e) Profit earned by company A in 2007

\(=\unicode{x20B9} \left ( \cfrac {50}{100} \times 12\right ) \)lakh = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)5.4 lakh

\(\therefore\) Income of company A in 2007

= investment + Profit

= \(\unicode{x20B9} \)(12+5.4) Lakh = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)17.4Lakh

and according to question income of company A in 2007 equal to income of company A in 2008.

\(\therefore\) Income of company A in 2008 = \(\unicode{x20B9} \)17.4 Lakh

\(\therefore\) Income of company A in 2008

= Investment + 60% of investment

\(\therefore\) \(\unicode{x20B9} \)17.4 Lakhs = Investment + \(\cfrac{60}{100}\times\) investment

\(\unicode{x20B9} \) 17.4 lakh  = \(\cfrac{160}{100}\times\) investment

\(\therefore\) Investment = \(\unicode{x20B9} \left ( \cfrac {1740}{160} \right ) \) lakh

= \(\unicode{x20B9} \) 10.875 Lakh
