how can you calculate the cube root of a negative number?

Directions: In the given question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and give answer if 


I. X3+729=0

II   2y2+36y+162=0

Options:
A) x<y
B) x>y
C) x≥y
D) x≤y
E) x = y or the relationship cannot be established 
Solution:

I. x3+729=0

x= -9

II. 2y2+36y+162=0

y2 +18y+81=0

(y + 9)2 = 0

y= -9

Clearly, x = y

put x=-9 in the equation, it becomes 0.
