when we are taking sq.root we shld take sq root of both l.h.s and r.h.s then y not of x+18

Question:
Directions : In the given question two equations numbered I and II are given. You have to solve both the equations and Give answer if

I. √(x+18) = √144 – √49

II. y2 + 409 = 473

Options:
A) x > y
B) x ≥y
C) x < y
D) x ≤ y
E) x = y or the relationship cannot be established
Solution:

I. √(x+18) = √144 – √49

Squaring both sides,

x + 18 = 144+49-2\(\times\)12\(\times\)7

x = 144+49-168=7

II. y2 + 409 = 473

y2 = 473 – 409

y2 = 64

y = ± 8

Hence relationship can not be find.

whats wrong with this??

√(x+18) = √144 – √49
√(x+18) = 12 – 7=5
on squaring both the sides, we get
x + 18 = 25
x = 7
