why 1/60 work taken by b n when adding both ans i s not coming plz explain in detail this ques

Question:

Pipe A can fill a tank in 1\(\cfrac{1}{2}\)  hours. Pipe B can empty the tank in x hours. Together they can fill the tank in 2\(\cfrac{1}{2}\) hours. Find x.

Options:
A) 3 hours 45 minute
B) 2 hours 40 minute
C) 4 hours 15 minute
D) 5 hours 
E) None of these
Solution:
Ans: (a) Time taken by A = 90 min.

1 min. work of A = \(\cfrac{1}{90}\)

Time taken by B = x minute

1 min. work of B = \(\cfrac{1}{x}\)

Time taken by A and B together = 150 min.

Therefore,


\(\cfrac{1}{90}\) - \(\cfrac{1}{x}\) = \(\cfrac{1}{150}\)    

\(\cfrac{1}{x}=\cfrac{1}{90}-\cfrac{1}{150}\)

x = 225 min                                 

X = \(\cfrac{45}{12}\) = 3 hours 45 min.
