Whoaaa!!

Question:
DIRECTIONS: In the question below are given few statements followed by some conclusion. You have to take the two given statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance with the commonly known facts and then decide which of the given conclusions logically follows from the two given statements, disregarding commonly known facts.

Statements:

Some boys are dancers.

All dancers are singers.

All singers are literates.

Some girls are literates.

Conclusions:

I. No boy is a girl.

II. Some boys are literates.

III. At least some girls are dancers.

IV. All dancers are literates.

Options:
A) Only II and IV
B) Only I, II and III
C) Only II, IV and I or III
D) Only III and II
E) None follows
Solution:
Ans: (a) The basic diagram of the given statements is as follows.

In the basic diagram, conclusion

I. Negative is true.

II. Affirmative is true.

III. Affirmative is false.

IV. Affirmative is true.

Conclusion II and IV are the definite conclusion as those are affirmative, where as conclusion I may be false, as it is a negative conclusion. To prove conclusion I false, we have to prove ''Some boys are girls”.

The alternative diagram is as follows.

Hence only II and IV follows.
