HOW T1=T2???PLS EXPLAIN

Question:

Two buses start at the same time from two bus stations and proceed towards each other at the rate of 20 km/hr. and 25 km/hr. respectively. When they meet one bus may have traveled 80 km more than the other. Find the distance between the two bus stations.

Options:
A) 680 km
B)

700 km

C) 710 km
D)

720 km

E) None of these
Solution:

Ans:(d)

D1 = 20 x T1

D2 = 25 x T2

D2 - D1 = 80 kms

both travel at the same time

25T1 - 20T1 = 80

5T1 = 80

T1= 80/5 = l6 hrs.

D2 = 25 x 16 = 400 km

D1 = 320 km

Total distance = 400 + 320 = 720 km

Its just indicates that both travel at the same time.......not time taken....

You may apply shortcuts to solve this:

Distance between two bus stations =

Distance travelled more by one bus* (sum of speeds/difference of speeds)

=80*(25-50)/(25-20)

= 720km
