60x+40x-x2=291

how is x2 is written here

Question:
A rectangular park 60 meter long and 40 meter wide has two concrete cross roads running in the middle of the park and rest of the park has been used as lawn. If the area of the lawn is 2109 sq. meter then What is the width of the road?
Options:
A) 4 meter
B) 2.91 meter
C) 5.82 meter
D) 3.04 meter.
E) 3 meter.
Solution:
We are given that a rectangular park whose length is 60m and breadth 40m

then, Area of park = 60*40=2400m2

and Area of lawn = 2109m2

therefore, Area of cross roads = 2400-2109=291m2

let the width of the road be x m. then,

According to the question,

60x+40x-x2=291

or x2-100x+291=0

or  (x-3)(x-97) = 0

x=3  or x=97

or x=3 m.

because x is considered as length of the road....

(length of the park)x + (length of the lawn)x - (length of the road)x = 291

60x+40x-x^2 = 291
