P+R = 300+ 303 = 603
R+S = 301+ 303= 604
Hence R=303 (From both and Definite)
so, P= 300, S= 604 (Definite)
So Q= 302 (Definite)

Hence p+Q+ R= 905 (Definite)
So why take 2nd Possiblity?

Question:

Four brothers P, Q, R and S go to a hotel. They book four hotel rooms numbered 300, 301, 302 and 303. Sum of room numbers of P and R is 603 and the sum of room numbers of R and S is 604. What is the sum of room numbers of P, Q and R?

Options:
A) 905
B) 903
C) 904
D) Either 903 or 905
E) Cannot be determined
Solution:

Ans: (d)

P + R = 603

Either P and R is 300 + 303 or 301 + 302 and for R + S = 604 = 301 + 303

Case (i)

  P            R             S            Q

300         303         301         302

Case (ii)

  P            R            S             Q

302         301         303         300

\(\therefore\) Sum of room numbers of P, Q and R is 300 + 302 + 303 = 905

OR 302 + 300 + 301 = 903

Because Either P and R is 300 + 303 or 301 + 302 and for R + S = 604 = 301 + 303
