"Statement I" does not follow since students weak in Maths & Science may not necessarily be good to be admitted.

Question:

DIRECTIONS: In the following questions, One statement is given followed by two conclusions I and II. You have to consider the statement to be true, even if it seems to be at variance from commonly known facts. You have to decide which of the given conclusions, if any, follow(s) from the given statement.

Statement:  From the next academic year, students will have the option of dropping mathematics and science for their school leaving certificate examinations.

Conclusions:

I. Student who are weak in science and Mathematics will be admitted.

II. Earlier students did not have the choice of continuing their education without taking these subjects.

Options:
A) If only conclusion I follows.
B) If only conclusion II follows.
C) If either conclusion I or II follows.
D) If neither conclusion I nor II follows.
E) If both conclusions I and II follow.
Solution:

(e) Since the new system gives the students the option of dropping Science and

Mathematics, so students weak in these subjects can also be admitted. So, 1 follows. Also, it is mentioned that the new system will come into effect from the next academic year. This means that it did not exist previously. So, II also follows.
