The question asks the total amount received by A from both the banks and the solution just adds the principal amount deposited in Bank X, why is the principal amount deposited in Bank Y not added?

Question:
DIRECTIONS : Three persons, A, B and C, deposited their annual savings in two different banks X and Y. The amount deposited by A in Bank X is double the amount deposited by him in Bank Y. The amount deposited by B in Bank X is half the amount he deposited in Bank Y. The amount deposited by C in Bank Y is the same as the amount deposited by A in Bank X. Total amount deposited by the three persons is 2.35 lac and the ratio of amount deposited by A, B and C is 12 : 15 : 20. Bank X gives simple interest at the rate of 15% pa and Bank Y gives compound interest at the rate of 10% pa. Answer the following questions based on the information.
What would be the total amount received by A after two years from both banks X and Y together?
Options:
A) 73200
B) 74200
C) 75200
D) 76200
E) 77200
Solution:
A + B + C = 235000

A : B : C =12 : 15 :20

Let the amount deposited be 12x, 15x and 20x

A = 60000,
B = 75000,
C = 100000  AX = 2AY and AX + Ay = 60000
AX = 40000 and
AY  = 20000

BX + BY = 75000
BX = 25000 and
BY = 50000
CY = AX = 40000
CX = 100000 – 40000     = 60000

The solution can be summarized as
Amount
Invested

X (15%)
Y (10%)
Total
A400002000060000
B250005000075000
C6000040000100000

Total amount
\(40000+ 40000\times.15\times2+ (20000\times1.1\times1.1) = 52000 + 24200 = 76200\)
