why we have not taken the LCM OF 8 73 in last step ..why the LCM od 9 8 4 is taken

Question:

A natural number when divided by 9, 8 and 4 leaves remainder as 8, 7 and 3 respectively. Find that number.

Options:
A) 55
B) 57
C) 71
D) 78
E) None of these
Solution:

Ans: (c)

9-8=1,8-7=1 and 4-3=1.

We see in each case, the remainder is less than divisor by 1.

The LCM of 9,8 and 4=72

Therefore the required number=72-1=71
