Question:

DIRECTIONS:Given question is followed by two statements, I and II. Answer the question by selecting the correct alternative.

Question:

All the students of a class are made to stand in a queue. What is the position of D in the queue from the front end, if D is ahead of her brother C?

Statements:

I. D is the fifth girl from the front end and eighth girl from the rear end.

II. The number of boys ahead of C is two and the number of girls between C and D is two.

Options:
A) If the question can be answered by using statement I alone but not by using statement II alone.
B) If the question can be answered by using statement II alone but not by using statement I alone.
C) If the question can be answered by using both the statements together but not by either of the

statements alone.

D) If the question can be answered by using either of the statements alone.
E) If the question cannot be answered on the basis of the two statements.
Solution:

Ans : (e) From I, nothings said about the number of boys, hence it is not sufficient.

From II. C is the third boy but the number of girls in front of D is not known.

Only II is not sufficient

By combining both the statements,

C is the third boy and the number of girls in front of D is four.

But as we do not know the number of boys in front of D, we cannot answer the question.
