Question:

DIRECTIONS: Study the following graphs to answer these questions.

The bar chart gives the expenditure incurred on various items A-Food for poor, B-Education of illiterate, C-Mid-day meal programme, D-General expenses, E-Eye-camp expenses, F-integrated street children programme. Total expenditure =  Rs.39 crore.

Suppose in the next year, grant from Central Government increases by 10%, Foreign contribution decreases by 10% and other income amounts remain same. If the expense pattern remains same, what is the percent increase in ‘Food for poor’ sector?

Options:
A)

5%

B)

10%

C)

2%

D)

1%

E) 7%
Solution:

Ans: (d)

Grant from central government = 110% of 30% of 40

= Rs.13.2 crore

Foreign contribution = 90% of 20% of 40 crore = Rs.7.2 crore

Total income = 50% of 40 + 13.2 + 7.2

= 20 + 13.2 + 7.2 = Rs.40.2 crore

Percentage of money in food for poor

=1039×100=25.64%

Now, new expenditure on food for poor

= 25.64100×39.4    = Rs.10.10 crore

∴    Increase in percentage  = 10.10-1010×100=1%
