Question:
DIRECTION: Study the following line graph carefully and answer the questions that follow:

The following graph shows various expenses incurred in publishing of a book

Assume that the given data is for 2015. Now, if the printing cost increases by 10%, transport cost decreases by 10%, paper cost decreases by 5%, binding cost increases by 5%, royalty remains the same, and promotion cost Increases by 25%, then what will be the effective increase or decrease in the cost of producing the book for the next year?
Options:
A) 5% increase
B) 7% decrease
C) 5% decrease
D) 7% increase
E) None of these
Solution:

Production cost in 2015 = 400000 (as calculated earlier)

Production cost with renewed cost = 100000 + 10% of 100000 + 40000 - 10% of 40000 + 120000 + 5% of 120000 + 40000 + 5% of 40000 + 40000 + 60000 + 25% of 60000

= 400000 + 10000 - 4000 + 6000 + 2000 + 15000

= 400000 + 29000

= 429000

Percentage increase = \(\cfrac{29000}{400000 }\) × 100 = 7.25%
